Our Story

Engineering discipline, applied to the web and beyond.

Caldera Projects is a young South Wales studio pairing the rigour of an engineering background with modern web and software craft. We're building in layers — web and Pavilion today, with building design and 3D renders to follow — and growing as we go. Here's how it started, and where it's headed.

The beginning

A skill set, a few passions, and a question.

Caldera Projects began with a question its founder, Samuel Roberts, set himself at 23: how do you take a hard-won skill set and a set of genuine passions, and build a company that has a real, positive impact on others?

The engineering pull came early. A family member working as an aerospace engineer turned a teenage fascination into a direction — mathematics and physics at school, then engineering at university, where the real fundamentals of the discipline began to take hold.

The grounding

Learning the craft, properly.

An engineering education and hands-on industry experience are the bedrock of how Caldera works. It's a real grounding in what disciplined delivery actually demands:

  • Reading scope & understanding requirements
  • Gathering the right information up front
  • Working to recognised standards
  • Clear, honest client communication
  • Solving complex problems under real constraints
  • Sweating the details others skip

It's a standard we carry into everything. When work leaves Caldera — a website, or a release of Pavilion — it has been thought through properly and built to be genuinely useful to the people who'll rely on it.

Design studio

It started with a clubhouse.

The design thread began with a real brief. When Baglan Cricket Club needed to picture a proposed new clubhouse, we took a basic member survey and produced two clubhouse design options with supporting visuals — enough to open an early conversation about what could be built.

We're now building this out properly — developing in-house design and visualisation capability, and working with the right qualified professionals — to bring clubhouse and building design to more clubs in the near future.

Pavilion

From a humble grant checker to a platform.

Pavilion began by solving one real problem. The volunteers at Baglan Cricket Club were losing evening after evening hunting for funding, so we built a checker: answer 12 tailored questions, get your matching grants in under two minutes — opening the door to the funding that could make a new clubhouse real.

From there it grew. A tracker to save grants, leave notes and monitor progress. An AI drafter to write emails to clubs, sponsors and funders from a few simple prompts. Then fixtures, results, squad lists, availability, teamsheet creation, a sponsorship tracker, a subscriptions tracker, document storage and an AI meeting-minutes summariser — with a full finance ledger in development, so clubs can run their money like the proper organisations they are.

Pavilion is built hand-in-hand with Baglan Cricket Club to be exactly what clubs actually need. It now covers all four UK nations — England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland — because every club deserves the chance to be run well.

Web & digital

A website is a sales engine, not a brochure.

The web work is where it all comes together. It started with this site, then Pavilion itself, then a website for a local business, Cavelo — and one for Baglan Cricket Club, the club that started it all.

We treat a website as far more than a marketing page. It is a company's — or a club's — entire sales engine, and it can make or break conversion. That's where our web services come in, and our care plans keep it fast, current and converting long after launch. Because the job doesn't end at handover — that's where it starts.

The vision

Ambitious by design — and built to grow.

The name references volcanic calderas: environments where pressure produces results. Caldera is deliberately building in stages — web and Pavilion are live and delivering today; building design and visualisation follow as the studio grows, backed by a widening network of trusted specialists.

The principle underneath all of it is simple: serious, disciplined thinking shouldn't only be available to those with in-house teams or large budgets. Whatever the project, that's what Caldera is here to build — and to keep building, as a studio South Wales can rely on.

Let's build something ambitious.
